How the Web Works: A Developer’s Perspective :

From a developer’s point of view, understanding how the web works is essential to building effective websites and applications. At its core, the web operates on a client-server model. When a user types a URL into a browser (the client), it sends a request to a web server using the HTTP or HTTPS protocol.

The browser first contacts the DNS (Domain Name System) to translate the human-readable domain name (like www.example.com) into an IP address. Once the server is located, the browser sends an HTTP request for the desired resource — such as an HTML page, image, or script.

The server processes the request, often with the help of backend code written in languages like Python, PHP, or Node.js. It may also interact with a database (like MySQL or MongoDB) to retrieve dynamic data. Then, it sends a response back to the client, typically in the form of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

The browser interprets these files, rendering the web page on the user's device. Frontend developers focus on how content appears and behaves using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, while backend developers ensure the server logic, authentication, and database communication function correctly.

Understanding key web components — like APIs, cookies, sessions, caching, and security protocols — helps developers build faster, safer, and more user-friendly web experiences. This knowledge forms the foundation for modern development in today’s internet-driven world.
